Hello January!
This month’s color is actually several colors, ranging from red earth
toned caramel through rich, deep purple reds, yellow, orange, peach, and
even into greens! Yep, that’s right, this months’ color comes from the
January birthstone, the Garnet.
All of these colors can be found in the garnet. This beautiful stone has
everything going for it; a huge array of colors, excellent durability and
surprisingly affordable, too! Not only does this stone have the large
range of color, but there are even some that have a color change aspect.
This is a very special stone!
Are you a January baby? Don’t like your birthstone? I suggest you
take another look, I’ll bet there is a garnet color you’ll like.
The zodiac sign for January is Capricorn, the Mountain Goat. This
symbol is all about hard work, faith, truth and grace. Capricorn born look
at life as one big project. They are ambitious, determined and very adaptable.
One step at a time, pragmatic, dedicated, almost to the point of stubbornness.
Thankfully, Capricorns are patient, efficient and organized. Sometimes
they can take life too seriously, but they love the climb to the top for that clean
fresh air just like their zodiac symbol the majestic Mountain Goat.
With a history almost as long as the zodiac and the garnet, Carnation is
the flower for January. This flower's history dates back to the ancient Greek
and Roman times. One of the world’s oldest cultivated flowers, the carnation
is appreciated for its ruffled appearance, clove like scent and long blooming period.
Even though there are many meanings for the carnation, the most widely
accepted are fascination, distinction and love.
In the early years the colors were shades of pale pink and peach, the palette
of available colors has grown to include red, yellow, white, purple and even green.
It was in the early 19th century that the carnation became the official
flower of Mother’s Day, in addition to having significance in many other cultures.
So, let’s get this year off to a great start and bring a lovely garnet color into
your home, and make a resolution to keep a vase of fresh flowers, like the happy
carnation, each month. It won't cost much and the value and pleasure of having
fresh flowers in a room is multiplied by the smiles every time you look at them.
Since we're continuing with the "cocooning" trend in our homes and lives, why
not choose a deep, rich, color saturated jewel tone from the family of garnets
and add it to an entry or powder room.
You'll be amazed at how it makes you feel!

December Color of the Month
It’s December; time for winter snow, cold weather, and excellent clear
colors in the landscape. December’s Color Of The Month, according to Michele
Bernhardt’s book “Colorstrology,” is called Pagoda Blue.
Now, I know you can say “blue” to 10 people and get 10 different ideas of what
blue is, so my interpretation of Pagoda Blue is a deep, rich green, gray, turquoise blue.
This color signifies wisdom, truth and optimism. A blue that is said to lend vision
to the wearer. A great color to take traveling or exploring.
As is happens the gemstone for December is Turquoise. Depending on where
the stone is found, the colors will vary from deep rich blue through the softer shades
of green blue.
Sagittarius is December’s zodiac sign, and often associated with free spirited people
who can’t be tied to one place for too long. Often independent and gregarious, they
are often the life of the party.
The gemstone, Turquoise is reputed to keep the wearer sure footed, in fact
the Turks adorned the bridals of their horses for just that protection. Turquoise,
like the wandering Sagittarius, has traveled the globe from Asia to the great
Southwest, with explorers and adventurers alike.
In Feng Shui, blues of any shade reside in the northeast. This area represents how
you use your knowledge, and the energy that brings opportunities and lessons
for spiritual growth. In general, all aspects of educational pursuits.
Blue colors have yin energy; calming and relaxing. Since the many hues of blue
are in the sea and sky, Feng Shui associates blue with adventure and exploration.
With SO many variations of this color, is it any wonder it’s so popular in almost
any room of the home? Not only that, but blues play very well with others,
sometimes surprisingly well.

November's Color of the Month
It's November; the leaves are changing rapidly and the cold winter wind is starting to chase away those warm October days.
Our color this month is rich claret red, an intense saturated color that inspires passion, depth and strength. Claret red may help you stay inspired as you build on your dreams and ambitions by increasing your perception, persistence and drive.
The birthstone for this month is Topaz or its alternate, Citrine. November born Scorpio’s personality is intensely passionate; they need their own private thinking space, and are fiercely loyal. Colors for Topaz range from colorless, through deep sherry yellow, orange, pink, red and even blue!
Topaz is a very abundant stone, and you can have beautiful jewelry at an affordable price.
As stated earlier, Scorpios are intense and exceedingly perceptive, often picking up on the unspoken word through the language of gesture. (Remember Claret Red may help increase perception.) They are insatiably curious and take very seriously their mission to learn about others. They love to probe and get to the bottom of things and are often successful executives. Fearless Scorpions rarely lose, per se, they keep moving forward, are stubborn and determined to succeed.
In the world of Feng Shui, the colors red, pink, orange and yellow are on the south and southwest section of the diagram called the Ba-Gua.
The south section represents reputation and fame, while the southwest section is the love, relationship and marriage area.
In the south, the element is fire, the color red. The red of a full bodied claret would be good here. Channeling good Chi in this area leads to self confidence which leads to success and goal attainments, which leads to more success and so on.
In the southwest, the colors are pink, orange, and yellow. These colors help Chi flow in affection with pink, inspiring passion with red or orange and yellow creates deep and lasting friendship.
Now I’m not saying you should paint entire rooms in Claret Red or Orange or even Pink, what I am saying is these colors can be used as an accent wall or as accessories in a room. Even in a painting on the wall. Think of how colors affect your life and how they make you feel. When the colors in your home are balanced, your home becomes the replenishing , relaxing sanctuary it should be.

How Do You Know Who to Hire For a Painting or Decorative Painting Project
Knowing what to ask is crucial so you avoid the pain of spending your hard earned money on a project that when it's finished you aren't satisfied with the results.
Read on for secrets you must know and ask if you want a successful painting or decorative painting project.
With all that's going on in the world today, you've decided it's time to freshen up the paint in your home. After all, we're all spending more time at home these days, and we want our personal surroundings to reflect us and make us feel, as they say, at home.
So you've headed to the home or local paint store and were completely overwhelmed by the color choices available to you. Wouldn't it be easier to just look in the yellow pages and hire someone to do the job? At first thought, that's a great idea, but whom. There are pages of painting contractors and decorative painters. And everybody has a friend or cousin that says they'll do it for less....but is that what you want? And more importantly will it be a good job, or one you'll have to redo? That's a scary thought!
You're a busy person, I hear what you're saying, "I don't have time to talk to everyone that has an ad in the newspaper or phone book!" You've asked around at work and none of your co-workers have had any painting done, or if they have, the horror stories and nightmare scenarios abound. In short nobody can give you a personal recommendation.
Are you out of luck? Nope, don't give up; I'll let you in on a couple secrets you must know, what questions you must ask when interviewing a painting contractor. These are questions beyond the obvious about being licensed, and are they insured.
Secret # 1: Will the painter help you pick color?
This is very important because the contractor should be an expert in not only how to apply the paint, but on what will look the best in your home. You want to work with a painter that has a color theory back round and understands how color works in your specific surroundings. If the painting company will not help you choose your color(s) then this might not be the best person to do your project.
A Painting Professional knows how light affects color and how the chosen color will "look" when applied. Also there are inherent issues with some colors. Darker colors may need a tinted primer and more than one coat. Different shades of one color may not work together well. These are things a Painting Professional with a back round in color theory will know and help to guide you to the correct color choices.
Secret # 2: Ask the contractor to see his or her paint fans.
The painting professional should have access to most if not all the paint fan decks available, and should readily show them to you. If the painter has only one fan deck available, ask why. There is no reason not to have several manufacturers' color fans ready to look at. The excuse of, "This is the only paint I buy" is unacceptable. That may mean that company is the only place this contractor has an account, and is possibly unaware that most reputable paint dealers can and will match other company's colors in their brand paint.
A Painting Professional will have many color decks available to help you choose from. The real secret here is that each manufacturer has slightly different recipes, and in your home, (which is where you should be choosing color) one paint fan deck will probably look better than another. When you compare the different decks side by side, each one will have different base tones that become apparent when compared in the light in your own home. That's the best way to choose the perfect colors for your home.
These are two very important points you must know when choosing a painting professional. If you find a contractor that fits the above criteria, you are off to a good start. That means this professional really is prepared and dedicated to giving you excellent service.

Finally help in choosing the perfect color for your room!
I'm so excited to tell you about this that I'm passing, for the moment, the October Color of the Month......
I did it, I've finished the ebook that I started a couple months ago. Over the years, I've learned many tricks and tips about color that just aren't taught in any school. I've found myself repeating the same basic steps, a formula if you will, when helping clients choose paint color for rooms in their homes.
I did follow the steps in the "How To Write and Publish Your Own eBook in as Little as 7 Days, and surprise, surprise, it works!! That eBook actually did help me get my own eBook out of my head and into book form. If this sounds like something you "need" to do, I heartily suggest you follow the above link. I found the 7 day eBook invaluable in writing my eBook
And I've gotta tell you, it was actually a fun and rewarding experience. Those little tricks I've used over the years in my painting business just aren't taught anywhere, and I believe those tricks and tips can be a great help to people that are trying to choose a paint color.
The title of this eBook is How to Choose the Perfect Color in 6 Easy Steps and in it you'll find out how to manipulate the color strips for that "decorator" look. How to add "zing" to a boring room, how to make the room feel larger, and much, much more.
The eBook is in a fun format, so every weekend warrior can easily follow the 6 steps and have terrific results. Yor friends will think you hired a decorator!!!
So if you have a painting project coming up, and who doesn't, and if you would be interested in saving yourself time money and a lot of frustration, go to How to Choose the Perfect Color in 6 Easy Steps and get your copy now.
Thanks for hanging in there with me, and we'll talk soon.

September Color of the Month
September’s Color of the Month is blue…and every other color except red.
What, that doesn’t make sense, you say. Well let me explain. The birthstone for September is sapphire and guess what, a sapphire can be any color except red, which would make it a ruby. Sapphires can be blue, yellow, purple, violet, green and any variation in hue of these colors. The blues can be described as sleepy, royal, violet, and inky. They can vary as much as the hues of the sky.
In Colorstrology, a book by Michele Bernhardt, the color for September is Baja Blue. An intense alluring color, it reflects the sea and sky over the sundrenched Baja peninsula south of California. Blues can be calming, soothing and symbolize sincerity, constancy and veracity. This color opens the mind to higher concepts and a less limiting point of view.
Wearing, meditating, or surrounding yourself in blue(s) encourages patience and eloquence. Ancient priests honored the sapphire above all gems for its ability to foretell the future. Sapphire was considered pure and sacred; often it took on an aura of chastity.
Virgo, the virgin, is the Zodiac sign for September. Those born under this sign tend to be neat, tidy, disciplined, organized and steadfast in their relationships.
In Feng Shui, the color blue has yin energy. Blue(s) are calming and soothing. Yin colors bring healing and relaxation. Used in the northeast of a room or home, blues reflect illumination, spirituality and knowledge. Enhancements that can be used in this area include; books and/or portraits of learned role models, something inspirational in your field of interest, or even angels, cloud pictures and dragons, the epitome of wisdom and strength.

August Color of the Month
It’s August and summer is rapidly moving towards fall.
This month we are showcasing two colors. At first, you’ll think there
is no relationship between them, but read on, I promise there is!
Peridot is the birthstone for the month of August. This stone will vary in
color from a pale yellowish green to a deep intense almost 7-Up bottle
green. Most of the peridot today comes from Arizona. It has historically
been found in Burma and Egypt, however, those sources have all but
been mined out.
The ancients considered the peridot the gem of the sun, while
astrologers associate the August sign of Leo with the sun. This connection
with the sun probably influenced the belief that peridot could dissolve enchantments
and banish evil, but only if set in gold. When worn around the neck, it
protects from the terrors of the night.
In Colorstology, a book by Michele Bernhardt, the color for August
is Sun Orange. This color is a blend of yellowish orange that gives a gold
appearance. Gold signifies both spiritual and material wealth. The brightness
of this color dispels darkness and is especially helpful when you feel the need to
protect yourself.
Sun orange increases joy and optimism, and also may assist in aligning
you with riches, both spiritual and material.
In the Feng Shui world, orange is a yang color, which provides enthusiasm
and positive energy. Orange can help with organization and give a sense of purpose.
Orange is a color of the first element fire, and should be placed in the south and
southwest. The color green is of the fifth element, wood and should be placed in
the east and southeast. Green or wood will bring energy and lush abundance.
So there you have it, two colors that at first glance are opposites, but
can be combined harmoniously and with breathtaking beauty.
Not fond of spring green or orange, are you thinking, “not so much?” There is
a whole world of combinations, hues and tones of these colors that
really can work together magically.
Does your bedroom need to be more restful? A subtle combination of
greens would be calming and peaceful. Accent with golds and you have an elegant
relaxing environment.
Do you have a home office in which you can’t seem to get anything
accomplished? Take a look at the range of oranges, and terra cotta colors can help.
In short, look around in nature, and you'll find a wealth of color combination help. The blueprints are already there for you to use!

July Color of the Month
Here comes July, the reds of the garden are welcomed by the hummingbirds, and fireworks will light the night sky over the 4th, and all throughout the month. I love reds of all hues and tones. There is a place in your home for one or another variation of this versatile color.
Cancer the Crab, the fourth sign of the zodiac, is ruled by the Moon. Cancer governs home life, and symbolic of emotionally intense, shy people who can be described as “homebodies.” Underneath that tough exterior shell, Cancerians are sensitive and understanding. People born under this sign are creative, and romantic with a strong love of home, family and tradition.
You are full of paradoxes, a love of travel, with a deep need for security, for example. You tend to surround yourself with sentimental objects from the past and are really good at accumulating things.
Ruby is the birthstone for July, and the emblem of love. Ruby represents passion, affection, power and majesty. Traditionally the Ruby is believed to attract and retain love, remove obstacles, ensure victory and reveal hidden treasurers. According to Sir John Mandeville who wrote in the 14th century, the owner of a fine ruby is assured of living in harmony with neighbors, and the stone will protect the home, fruit trees and vineyards from injury from tempests.
In “Colorstrology” a book by Michele Bernhardt, the color for this month is Coral Blush. This color is a cool pale pink with hints of mauve and silver. It’s gentle, soothing and inspires love, reflection and receptivity. This is a great color for a bedroom or quiet reading area. Wearing, meditating or surrounding yourself with coral blush helps open the heart and lift the spirit.
In Feng Shui, the red color family covers two areas, the south and southwest.
The red color is in the former, while the lighter tones are in the latter. South represents esteem and fame while southwest is relationship and marriage.
Reds, pinks, yellows and peaches all work together in the southwest. These colors are Yang colors. They provide enthusiasm and the positive energy required to do something or be motivated. Some of the symbols that can be added to the décor are; roses, pairs of decorative items, vases, candlesticks, lamps etc.
So what does all this tell us? Once again warm, vibrant, and sometimes soothing colors combine to harmonize and truly make our homes a restful and restorative place to be.

It’s June and summer is happily on its way. This month’s gemstone is the lovely, organic pearl. Yep, I said organic, I know that word is overused, but by strict definition, from Webster’s, organic means “derived from living organisms.” In the case of the pearl, a special type of mollusk with the ability to generate the iridescent mother of pearl lining in their shell is the living organism.
Pearls, like many gems, come in a wide variety of colors including; white, pink, cream, yellow, gold, silver, gray-blue, and black. Add the freshwater ones to this and you can run the gamut from white to peach, orange, and lavender!June born Gemini is always fascinated by something new. The twins of Gemini appreciate the never boring aspect of always changing moods.
The pearl is the primary birthstone for June, but since the whims of Gemini are always changing, there are two other gemstones for this month, Moonstone and Alexandrite. So if pearls don’t catch your fancy, look into one of the other beautiful stones.
Ancient writers called the pearl “dew from heaven” and “tears from angels.” Pearls are a symbol of chastity and purity, and were thought to alleviate stomach distress-a belief that’s not entirely unfounded. Pearls contain a significant amount of carbonate of lime that may have worked as an antacid, but I wouldn’t give up the Tums!!
In Michele Bernhardt’s book, Colorstrology, the color for June is Gold. This color and all its variations have the ability to lift our spirits and bring sunshine into our lives. Mercury moves through the heavens this month and is the planet of communication.
Wearing, meditating or surrounding yourself with colors of golds, and yellows, connects with joy, and is thought to increase memory and communication skills.
In Feng Shui, yellow is a “yang” color and is considered to be as auspicious as red. Its element is earth, and is believed to provide enthusiasm and positive energy. Earth is the second element in Feng Shui, there are five total elements. There must be a balanced presence of the five for harmony in the home.
Earth colors are light yellow, and all sandy and beige colors. Earth colors are recommended for the center of the home, as well as the northeast and southwest. But remember, a little goes a long way.
This color represents health, harmony and unity, and is used to for balance of the eight sectors.
Enhancements include turtles to symbolize protection, terra cotta planters and ceramic accessories, elephants with the trunk up to symbolize wisdom strength and power, and aloe vera.
With all the possible golds and yellows available, what a perfect combination of colors to ad interest and warmth to your home!

May Color of the Month
Our gemstone for May is the Emerald. Possibly the most beautiful, most intense and radiant green found in any gemstone. Emeralds have been revered and held in high esteem by almost all peoples throughout history. From mines worked by the ancient Egyptians near the Red Sea between 3000 and 1500BC to the current mines in Columbia, emeralds continue to capture the adoration of gemstone lovers worldwide.
In ancient lore and mysticism, emeralds were thought to improve memory, increase clairvoyance and strengthen faith. Emeralds were also thought to be a cure all of sorts, the ancient’s idea of aspirin if you will.
Taurus is the second sign of the zodiac and the astrological sign for those born between April 20th and May 20th. Steady and stable, Taureans are the salt of the earth, and their friends know they can depend on their honesty. A Taurus is an excellent friend and fiercely loyal. The often discussed trait of stubbornness can also be described as intense persistence. The quote of “….never, never, never, give up….” from Winston Churchill comes to mind.
The flower for May is the Lily of the Valley. In the language of flowers, lily of the valley denotes humility, chastity, sweetness and purity. It’s a beautiful plant and wonderfully fragrant. Remember the cologne “Muguet Des Bois”, a lily of the valley perfume from the 60s and 70s? Ah, now that brings back memories…..
Green is the Feng Shui color of fresh energies. Green is very nourishing to your health. It calms the nerves and balances the whole body by bringing healing energies. It is very important to have at least several different shades of green to maximize the Feng Shui energy effects. Spring is a season full of celebrations, all of them reflecting the beauty of nature renewal and a new beginning. A great way to bring green into your surroundings is with actual plants that have lush green foliage. Doing this will promote vitality, growth and healing. It is also and expression of abundance, thus an ancient Feng Shui cure for wealth and prosperity.
A beautiful way to add multiple greens to any wall is to create a decorative finish using similar hues with either paint or plaster.
So, Go Ahead, revisit the color green with fresh eyes, I’m sure you’ll find several that make you smile and relax.

April Color of the Month
Adventurous, energetic, pioneering and courageous. Yep, it’s April and those qualities describe not only the Color of the Month but just about everything else about April that I can think of!
It seems no matter how bleak the winter was, Spring is coming and with it the promise of new beginnings and fresh starts.
Our Color this Month is Red, and probably any variation you might dream of can inspire you with enthusiasm. Want to brighten up your table, try a bouquet of cheerful and playful Gerbera Daisies. This lovely daisy is native to South Africa, but has become a popular flower around the world. It is prized for it’s bold colors and striking appearance. The reds and combination of red hues can’t help but brighten your day.
April is also the first Zodiac sign, Aries the Ram. The Element of Aries is fire, so think action, enthusiasm, and a burning desire to be “in the game.” Aries born are rarely patient, always confident, passionate and impulsive. Stubborn, yes, but underneath, very sensitive. Some well known Aries people: Harry Houdini, Vincent Van Gogh, Debbie Reynolds, (Ms. Reynolds is the reason I’m Debbie not Deborah) and Charlie Chaplin, just to name a few.
What gemstone other than Diamond could be a more appropriate birthstone for Aries?
Diamonds are the emblem of fearlessness and invincibility, undoubtedly because of its unbeatable hardness and fiery sparkle.
Known to stimulate appetite and conversation, red is most commonly used in dining rooms, but that’s not the only place you can “love” red.
I know, reds are “tricky,” but almost every hue and tone of this color can be a wonderful addition to any room in your home in varying degrees.
Judicious use of reds and shades of yellow can give an upbeat, optimistic feel. Or tones of red plus brown can be sophisticated and sexy.
If the words painting with red strikes terror into your heart, change the way you think about color. Using words like Paprika, cayenne, or even red velvet cake evokes a picture in your mind of different tones of red. Now red seems easier to imagine, doesn’t it?

March Color of the Month
Believe it or not, it’s March. I don’t have a clue as to where the year is going, but it’s beginning to look like spring will be here soon.
This months’ gemstone is the aquamarine. The name is derived from ancient Greek which means sea water, and therefore the color of the gemstone is a lovely blue green.
An aquamarine is a cousin and in the same crystal family as the emerald.
Aqua color can vary from pale through deep blue. Aquas have a long and storied history, full of magic and romance.
Along with providing power over evil, aquas are associated with faithfulness, courage, and friendship. They have also been said to aid in establishing happy marriages. It might be said that March born are truly in pursuit of the perfect relationship, and or their art.
The characteristics of the color of aqua align nicely with the ones that are Pisces, the Zodiac for this month; romantic, generous, receptive, honest, and affectionate. Blue, in all its hues, is the color of oceans, skies, and the heavens. The energy of blue is said to help us look beyond the immediate surroundings, and expand our knowledge.
Blues are also the color of divinity in many civilizations. It can bring peace and understanding, make communication easier, and of course calms and relaxes our souls.
March also means the appearance of Daffodils. One of my favorite things that happens this month is the daffodils start poking up through the soil, growing and giving us the beautiful yellow and white flowers for most of the month. This months’ flower has many names, daffodil, jonquil and narcissus, but always signals the beginning of spring. Daffodils mean friendship, chivalry and domestic happiness.
And besides that, they always make me smile!

Hello January! This month’s color is actually several colors, ranging from red earth toned caramel through rich, deep purple reds, yellow, orange, peach, and even into greens! Yep, that’s right, this months’ color comes from the January birthstone, the Garnet.
All of these colors can be found in the garnet. This beautiful stone has everything going for it; a huge array of colors, excellent durability and surprisingly affordable, too! Not only does this stone have the large range of color, but there are even some that have a color change aspect. This is a very special stone!
The zodiac sign for January is Capricorn, the Mountain Goat. This symbol is all about hard work, faith, truth and grace.
Capricorn born look at life as one big project. They are ambitious, determined and very adaptable. One step at a time, pragmatic, dedicated, almost to the point of stubbornness.
Thankfully, Capricorns are patient, efficient and organized. Sometimes they can take life too seriously, but they love the climb to the top for that clean fresh air just like their zodiac symbol the majestic Mountain Goat.
With a history almost as long as the zodiac and the garnet, Carnation is the flower for January. Even though there are many meanings for the carnation, the most widely accepted are fascination, distinction and love.
One of the world’s oldest cultivated flowers, carnation is appreciated for its ruffled appearance, clove like scent and long blooming period.
The carnation’s history dates back to the ancient Greek and Roman times.
In the early years the colors were shades of pale pink and peach, the palette of available colors has grown to include red, yellow, white, purple and even green.
It was in the early 19th century that the carnation became the official flower of Mother’s Day, in addition to having significance in many other cultures.
So, let’s get this year off to a great start and bring a lovely garnet color into your home.
