August Color of the Month

It’s August and summer is rapidly moving towards fall.
This month we are showcasing two colors. At first, you’ll think there
is no relationship between them, but read on, I promise there is!
Peridot is the birthstone for the month of August. This stone will vary in
color from a pale yellowish green to a deep intense almost 7-Up bottle
green. Most of the peridot today comes from Arizona. It has historically
been found in Burma and Egypt, however, those sources have all but
been mined out.

The ancients considered the peridot the gem of the sun, while
astrologers associate the August sign of Leo with the sun. This connection
with the sun probably influenced the belief that peridot could dissolve enchantments
and banish evil, but only if set in gold. When worn around the neck, it
protects from the terrors of the night.

In Colorstology, a book by Michele Bernhardt, the color for August
is Sun Orange. This color is a blend of yellowish orange that gives a gold
appearance. Gold signifies both spiritual and material wealth. The brightness
of this color dispels darkness and is especially helpful when you feel the need to
protect yourself.
Sun orange increases joy and optimism, and also may assist in aligning
you with riches, both spiritual and material.
In the Feng Shui world, orange is a yang color, which provides enthusiasm
and positive energy. Orange can help with organization and give a sense of purpose.
Orange is a color of the first element fire, and should be placed in the south and
southwest. The color green is of the fifth element, wood and should be placed in
the east and southeast. Green or wood will bring energy and lush abundance.

So there you have it, two colors that at first glance are opposites, but
can be combined harmoniously and with breathtaking beauty.
Not fond of spring green or orange, are you thinking, “not so much?” There is
a whole world of combinations, hues and tones of these colors that
really can work together magically.

Does your bedroom need to be more restful? A subtle combination of
greens would be calming and peaceful. Accent with golds and you have an elegant
relaxing environment.

Do you have a home office in which you can’t seem to get anything
accomplished? Take a look at the range of oranges, and terra cotta colors can help.

In short, look around in nature, and you'll find a wealth of color combination help. The blueprints are already there for you to use!
