September Color of the Month

September’s Color of the Month is blue…and every other color except red.

What, that doesn’t make sense, you say. Well let me explain. The birthstone for September is sapphire and guess what, a sapphire can be any color except red, which would make it a ruby. Sapphires can be blue, yellow, purple, violet, green and any variation in hue of these colors. The blues can be described as sleepy, royal, violet, and inky. They can vary as much as the hues of the sky.

In Colorstrology, a book by Michele Bernhardt, the color for September is Baja Blue. An intense alluring color, it reflects the sea and sky over the sundrenched Baja peninsula south of California. Blues can be calming, soothing and symbolize sincerity, constancy and veracity. This color opens the mind to higher concepts and a less limiting point of view.

Wearing, meditating, or surrounding yourself in blue(s) encourages patience and eloquence. Ancient priests honored the sapphire above all gems for its ability to foretell the future. Sapphire was considered pure and sacred; often it took on an aura of chastity.

Virgo, the virgin, is the Zodiac sign for September. Those born under this sign tend to be neat, tidy, disciplined, organized and steadfast in their relationships.

In Feng Shui, the color blue has yin energy. Blue(s) are calming and soothing. Yin colors bring healing and relaxation. Used in the northeast of a room or home, blues reflect illumination, spirituality and knowledge. Enhancements that can be used in this area include; books and/or portraits of learned role models, something inspirational in your field of interest, or even angels, cloud pictures and dragons, the epitome of wisdom and strength.
